Sub Plans for Mr. Whalen
"When you go into court you are putting your fate into the hands of twelve people who weren't smart enough to get out of jury duty."-Norm Crosby
The saga continues into another week. Just as we were making progress, the judge dismissed for the day on Friday, so I must return Monday to hopefully complete our deliberations for the case.
We expressed our concern to the judge about an apparent "stalemate" that we reached early on Friday. In civil cases, juries must be unanimous(12-0)in their rulings which has been quite the challenge working with such a diverse group of people.
So here is your plan for today...
Business Law-Blue 1 and 2
The next chapter in our course is all about our US Court system. Our justice system is designed unlike any other country in the world for two reasons...
1. We have two judicial systems(Federal and State)
2. You have the right to have your case heard by a jury of your peers.
We are going to focus on #1 today. Let's get started...
Click on the link below and read about the two court systems in our country(ignore that is says Missouri, most states are similar). Also, complete the "Student Challenge" at the bottom of the page to check for your understanding.
After you've read and you feel you have a solid understanding, visit the Google Form below and answer the questions about the federal and state court systems:
Once everyone is finished, close your Chromebooks and enjoy watching "In The Jury Room," a behind the scenes look at a real jury.
