How should we learn? What do librarians bring to the learning table?

Makes so much sense - I've also said, as an adult, I don't need to know everything in order to function. Instead, I simply need to know how to gain information, try things out, and be willing to explore. Our students live in this same world - a world full of information. No need to memorize facts!

I really like this TED talk- and agree that experiential learning is the way to go. I also think showing kids that failure is okay is such a huge thing that we sometimes leave out. I try to do this a lot with my classes that I teach, but I struggle to find ways to get other people on board. They all have their own curriculums and time contraints, that coming together is sometimes difficult.

One thing we bring to the table is providing a space for creativity and innovation for the students and the staff; modeling for the school how learning can be flexible and collaborative through the use of technology. The librarian is the guide and the guru.

Over the past ten years, I have heard a number of times, "we don't need libraries or librarians because everything is online". This is exactly why we all need libraries and librarians- to teach people how to find the RIGHT information and how to use it in an effective way. Technology has made librarians more important, not obsolete like some (clueless) people think.

I agree that we need to stop teaching to standardized tests. We need to find creative ways to motivate kids to want to learn, and as librarians I think we are in the perfect place to do this.

We learn through experiential learning and embracing failure. As Librarians, we provide students the opportunity to promote authentic inquiry PBL. In addition, we focus on reflection throughout the process.

The importance of learning through failure has come up over and over in the entrepreneurship class as some of the most successful business people put it very high on their lists of how to grow a successful business.

While listening to this I'm thinking about how my first graders are bringing their stories to life with stop motion videos. We are the bridge to 21st century skills.

The abilities we have to offer enrichment to classroom curriculum needs to be acknowledged by classroom teachers. It's basically most classroom teachers opinions that we need to gain their respect instead of there being an expectation of partnership.

Students learn by doing (hands on). I think librarians are guides to their learning process, to help them with critical lifelong information skills.
