Realism (Art Movement)

What is Realism?
Realism art is a different approach to art. It portrays art in its realist form. It is not idealistic or fictional. It is very straightforward.
This is Honore Daumier. He was a French caricaturist, painter, sculptor known for his satire of 19th-Century politics and society in France.
This is Ilya Repin. He was a Russian painter and sculptor who dedicated much of his works to Ukraine, his native country. He expressed psychological and social tensions in the USSR.
This is David Wilkie. He was a Scottish artist recognized more in British culture.
Realism focuses on "ordinary life" and the "real" in life. It often seen as figure drawings or paintings.
Realism was triggered by social change. It began in the 18th century as a reaction to Romanticism and Neoclassicism. It was led by Gustave Courbet.
