Theodor Seuss Geisel was born on May 2, 1904, in Springfield, Massachusetts. He went to Dartmouth College. After graduating in 1925, he went to Lincoln College, Oxford. There, his goal was to get a PhD in literature. But he was convinced by friends to pursue drawing rather than literature, so he gave up on literature.
In 1927 after giving up before getting a degree, he started to publish his works in magazines and books. Soon, he moved to New York. There, he got a job for magazines and started doing cartoons for them. Soon he started cartooning for famous companies. That is what got him through the Great Depression.
don't you perceive,
you are the most beautiful thing,
these eyes have seen.
You soar and flutter,
with your rainbow wings.
A miracle of life,
you are to me.
