John Brown mini research assignment

John brown was born in Torrington, Connecticut in 1800. He was a 19th century militant abolitionist. He worked With the Underground Railroad and other endeavors. He believed that using violent means to end slavery. In 1847, He met Frederick Douglass in Massachusetts and outline his plan to lead a war to free the slave. In 1859 October 16, Brown and his 21 followers attacked the federal arsenal in harpers ferry. Their goal was to capture the supplies and use it to arm a slave rebellion. Brown was captured and most of his followers were killed including two of his sons. John Brown was hanged on December 2, 1859. Before he died he wrote a note. His note says "Charlestown, Va, 2nd, December, 1859

I John Brown am now quite certain that the crimes of this guilty, land: will never be purged away; but with Blood. I had as I now think: vainly flattered myself that without very much bloodshed; it might be done."
