As an avid basketball fan, I follow all levels of the sport; from high school to the NBA. I picked up on Nerlens Noel when he was at Tilton showing off that raw athleticism amazing defensive prowess (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZSd-cn2DBA). I followed him through college ball, watching him swat and slam until that upsetting injury.
The point is that this kid can play. The Cavs should definitely pick him up with the first pick; getting a defensive anchor that will make defensive coach Mike Brown smile along with picking up another young and extremely athletic player to add to this strong core. Although he wouldn't be able to play for the first few months of the season, he will still be able to develop off the court and learn from the older players. His injury is not a big concern, mainly because he has no real history of bad knees and it seemed like it was just a crazy incident.
The Cleveland Cavaliers have a great mix of players on their team; superstar in the making Kyrie Irving, all-star caliber Anderson Varejao, and some young talent in Dion Waiters and Tristan Thompson. Nerlens would be a great asset and would shore up the big man rotation. Noel would also back up Varejao who has been riddled with injuries the last three seasons.
He may not have that great of an offensive game, but with the help of player development from executive, Zydrunas Ilgauskas, he can become an offensive threat and round out his overall game.
