What is the Biggest Problem 8th Graders Face Today?

The biggest challenge that 8th graders face to day is self esteem. Many eighth graders are shown pictures of perfect people, they're sometimes bullied, and the have a very low confidence of themselves. This can affect their self esteem. When people don't have a high self esteem that means they don't think about themselves in a good way. They see themselves as too fat, or too skinny, or they're not smart enough, or countless other things when in reality, they are perfectly fine.

In an article talking about Self Esteem issues the author stated, "Part of the reason some people have poor self-esteem is a discrepancy between expectations and reality (though this reality is usually distorted). According to Ryan Howes, Ph.D, psychologist, writer and professor in Pasadena, California, 'Deep down we've all constructed an idea of who we ‘should’ be: how we should look, act, think, feel and be regarded by others.Not meeting these 'shoulds' can have a negative impact on self-esteem. “When we fail to match those standards, one response may be frustration, anger or even hatred for the parts of ourselves that don't measure up,' he says."(phsychcentral.com)  There are many reasons people have low self-esteem. Most of the time it's either bullies or social media telling them how they should look. Magazines often showcase celebrities, and the magazines often say that the celebs are 'perfect'. People with low-self esteem believe that sense celebs are skinny and 'perfect' that they have to be that way too. But when they are stick then and have perfect hair and makeup all the time, the have very little confidence.

This little video shows someone with no self-confidence, and just one small act of kindness helps them. It can be really hard dealing with self-esteem. You constantly think people are judging you but more importantly you judge yourself harshly. We are always told what's more important is how you see yourself. The only cure for low self-esteem is if the person can learn to look past the flaws and faults they see. When they can love themselves then they'll have a higher confidence. With more confidence you can put yourself into more social or non activities and put yourself out there. Self-esteem and confidence go hand-and-hand. So, learn to love yourself, and put yourself out there!
