12 Ways to Quench your Creativity
1. Assign yourself a task that you don't know the end of just yet...
Give yourself a challenge but don't make it one of those softball tosses like "take the trash out tonight" or "don't turn the tv on" – Make it an actual, measurable goal. If I may toot my own horn for a minute, a great example is this very list. I titled it 12 Ways to Quench your Creativity and I don't know if you've noticed but we're in the middle of numero uno right now. I know #2 is to make a list but 3-12 are something I will create along the way.
2. Make a List
Naysayers: "But lists are so structured that's not creativity at play!"
"NAY" I tell you, Naysayers! Nay! Lists promote creativity in many ways. 1) They're fun & being fun opens up your creative pours. 2) They can include what you want to accomplish – like a list of must-see attractions around your home town – that once visited (and therefore checked off the list) stimulate thought about all kinds of things like how much propaganda contributed to WWII. 3) They're never-ending. This is a list that's talking about making a list that's inside another list about lists... Get your creative juices flowin' over that one...
3. Do something new
Creativity's arch-nemesis is the comfortable, familiar path. You know what's coming; You probably like what's coming. Therein lies the problem. When you do something new it gets your creative juices flowing. So go someplace new. Do something new. Read something new. Listen to something new.
4. Finish this list...
What better way to get creative than to collaborate on a creatively list! Add your own No 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 or 12 in the comments below!
