Thomas Alleyne's High School Christmas Roundup
Happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year from us all!
This week someone asked me who 'Round-up' is written for and what was the purpose of the newsletter.
Immediately I replied that it was parents so that we can give an insight into some of the highlights of our week and so that we can quickly share key informationn.
On reflection however I realised the benefits of parents sharing Round-up with your son or daughter so that you can talk together about the opportunities available at Thomas Alleyne's. It is also therefore written with students in mind. In addition to this our governors, staff and wider community read 'Round-up' to keep abreast of developments in school.
Usually my blog contains words from teachers to the school community however this time I would like to share some words from a parent to our staff.
'We just wanted to say a big thank you to all staff for teaching our son. We are truly grateful for all your hard work in teaching him since he joined Thomas Alleyne's. He has settled in really well and enjoys coming to school. It is always a worrying time when children move school and even more this year as this is it, his final years at school. We are happy so far as he is growing in confidence and turning into a polite young man. We are so pleased you are all helping him on this final journey at school. We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Enjoy your well earned break.'
School dinners are so much different to when I was at school. To be honest they needed to change! This week our canteen staff cooked us a Christmas Dinner that went down a treat. As with many of our support staff, day in day out, they make sure the school runs smoothly. If anyone is ever looking for a good example of teamwork - just watch our staff in the kitchen.
Thank you to all those parents, staff and students who joined us for the Christmas concert this week. It was a wonderful evening showing just how much talent there is in the school. PTA once again made the evening even more enjoyable by providing refreshments. They are always looking for new members, if you can help us please let us know and we can put you in touch with them.
Post 16 Prize giving
It was lovely to see so many students back at Thomas Alleyne's and to find out how their jobs, apprenticeships, universities and gap years are going. The message shared by Mrs Dodd on the post 16 evening was an interesting one. She shared that some students had said that the school had changed: that the walls were a different colour and the signs were different. They were right: aesthetics have changed and all organisations change over time, however what she reminded our past students is that the heart Thomas Alleyne's has not changed and that it will always be their school, they will always be welcome and they will always be 'Old Alleynians'.
This is true too for the staff who leave us at the end of this term. We wish Miss Earp, Mr Shaw, Mr Taylor and Mrs Wood well in their new schools and thank them for all they have done during their time at Thomas Alleyne's.
Carols in Assembly
Thank you to Mr Wright today who managed to get the whole school to bring in the Christmas holiday by singing Silent Night together.
Have a lovely holiday.
A few reminders for the New Year
If you change your address or telephone number (especially mobile numbers) please advise the school as soon as possible so that we can change the details on our computer system.Thank you
Attendance and Punctuality.
We pride ourselves on high attendance levels at Thomas Alleyne's School. Following statutory guidelines all students should be on school premises and in their form rooms by 8.40am. Students should also attend all morning lessons on time & be marked present again for afternoon registration at 2.05pm. Helping students to understand the importance of punctuality helps to create good habits for later life and also ensures that they do not miss any important messages and announcements for the day ahead.Students who do arrive late to school without a valid reason will be issued with a detention. We will, of course contact you should this situation arise.
Please find linked below a reminder of our expected school uniform for students, should you need to replenish any items for the new term in January.
