1. Develop and Activate Background Knowledge: This is finding out what students already know about the topic that you will teach. This can be done by starting a KWL chart where they write in each column write what you already KNOW, what you WANT to know, and what you LEARNED.
2. Discuss the Strategy: This is before the topic is taught, the class discusses why they think this topic is important to be learned. I think this is important because when a child knows the importance of learning they will have in the minimum identified motivation.
3. Model the Strategy: This is when the teacher models or shows the strategy to the class. I plan to use this in my classroom because I think it is good for those students that may be visual learners to see it used before trying to use the strategy on their own.
