In session 1 we learned some about Forensic Science. We then completed a crime scene sketch. The sketch was of an office with a broken printer. Then we explored the different methods of collecting evidence.
In session 2 we learned about the history of fingerprinting. We then gathered materials to lift a fingerprint. We used tape and a fingerprint to lift the fingerprint and put it on a card. Finally, we lifted a fingerprint.
In session 3 we learned about the process of a DNA fingerprinting. We then completed a DNA extraction. DNA was on the fingerprint so we basically lifted a fingerprint. The DNA was taken by tape.
In session 4 we gathered materials then did a DNA extraction. We mixed a lot of things together into a graduated cylinder. We then stirred it around and could see the DNA.
In session 5 we learned about trace evidence and a microscope. We got a hair strand and examined it using the microscope. Before that we learned all about the microscope to start with.
In session 6 we first explored the process of document analysis. We then completed a Chromatography analysis. We got strips and marked different colors and used some substance to see the color rise up the strip.
In session 7 we first constructed a theory. We then identified a suspect in the Running Well High School with the Crime Logbook.
A career in this module would be a detective. We learned how to take up fingerprints like a detective would. Also, we learned how to do a DNA extraction which would be similar to what a detective would do. So it would be easy to go into more detail for a career like this.
