In 1997, The Art Institute of California, Los Angeles opened in the city of Santa Monica. The school provides students with industry-relevant resources that prepare them for a creative career in design, media arts, culinary, or fashion. The Art Institute of California, Los Angeles houses an exhibition gallery and an art supply store for the convenience of students. They also have a library that holds magazines, books, DVD's, and more for the students.
The Student Affairs Department was created to serve students by providing out-of-class opportunities to enhance their educational experiences. The Student Affairs Department endeavors to develop an individual who has not only successfully completed an academic program, but has also acquired a range of outside interests and skills in interpersonal relations. To aid in the formation of these skills, The Art Institute of San Francisco promotes a variety of student organizations and activities in which all students are strongly encouraged to participate.
The career path I have chosen is to be is an animator. Since I love to draw I think it would be interesting to see my art come to life by being an animator. With animation I would be able to also have multiple people see my cartoon-ish/ anime drawings be animated and watched by many. It also makes good money but I'm not really doing it for the money because its my passion and I've been drawing for more then half my life.
Animation Wage in California
Level of Experience Hourly Annual
Entry Wage $27.47 $57,140
Median Wage $39.08 $81,290
Experienced Wage $51.86 $107,860
An animator produces multiple images called frames, which when sequenced together rapidly create an illusion of movement known as animation. The images can be made up of digital or hand-drawn pictures, models or puppets.
Animators tend to work in 2D animation, 3D model-making animation, stop frame or computer-generated animation. Computer-generated animation features strongly in motion pictures (to create special effects or an animated film in its own right), as well as in aspects of television work, the internet and the computer games industry.
The basic skill of animation still relies heavily on the animator's artistic ability, but there is an increasing need for familiarity with technical computer packages.
Upon graduation, students may look for employment with motion picture and video production companies, as well as advertising and public relations firms. Animators may also find work with software publishers and computer system design firms. With additional training, these professionals may also become:
- Sketch artists
- Graphic designers
- Computer game developers
- Computer game programmers
- Visual artists
- Web designers
- Multimedia designers
