Volleyball: a game for two teams, usually of six players, in which a large ball is hit by hand over a high net, the aim being to score points by making the ball reach the ground on the opponent's side of the court.

The Basics

In Volleyball you get to play every position. As the game goes on, players move clockwise around the court. Each girl gets to serve, play back and front court, and be on offense and defense.

You won the coin toss, so your team gets to serve the ball. The server stands anywhere along the end line. When the referee blows the whistle, the server tosses the ball into the air, she uses an overhand serve for more power and accuracy. She sends the ball over the net. Now it's up for the other team to return the ball. The players on the other team cannot slow the ball down by catching it.

Spiking or hitting it a very hard technique to learn.

1. Put your arms out in front of you and bind you legs for more control.

2. Swing your arms backwards to get more energy.

3. Jump up and pull your arms back into a bow and arrow motion.

4. Then snap your wrist and swing through.

That is how most volleyball players, get more power when trying to spike a ball.

A big problem with volleyball is plays. Like when the ball comes over the libero bumps it to the setter and then the setter sets it to the hitter. So, most people know what's going on. I think that we should change it up a little bit and have it where different people do it each time, so it shakes up the other team and confuses them.

This is a diagram of a volleyball court.

How much do you know about volleyball?

1. How many players are allowed on the court at once?

2. How long does a game last?

3. Who does the setter pass the ball to?

4. How many times can you touch the ball?

5. What is a libero?

Server- This action puts the ball into play. The server uses the hand or any part of the arm to send the ball over the net and into the opposing court.

Tournament- (in a sport or game) a series of contests between a number of competitors, who compete for an overall prize.

Libero-The libero is a player specialized in defensive skills: the libero must wear a contrasting jersey color from his or her teammates and cannot block or attack the ball when it is entirely above net height. When the ball is not in play, the libero can replace any back-row player, without prior notice to the officials.

Setter- The setter is the only player who will run toward the net once a teammate digs the ball, since everyone else moves away from the net to prepare to hit.

Spiking- In volleyball, spiking is the act of scoring a point by slamming the ball over the net into the opposing court effectively and aggressively. In many ways, the mechanism of volleyball spiking is not altogether different from the act of slam dunking in the sport of basketball.
