Question~ Why was it important for the Jews to control the city of Jerusalem?

Answer~ Jerusalem was the holiest city in Judaism. There was many holy temples within Jerusalem. Jerusalem was so important that Jews outside of Jerusalem would pray in it's direction.

Question~ What did the Jews think the cause of the crusades were?

Answer~ The Jews believed that the crusades were invading Jerusalem. At the time The Jews were in Jerusalem. It was their home, but the crusaders were invading. The Jews had made a living within Jerusalem, and the crusaders just came in slaying the Jews and everyone else that lived there.

Question~ What impact did the crusades have on the Jews?

Answer~ The crusades attacked the Jews. The Jews tried to protect all of the religious buildings/temples like Haifa."The Jews almost single-handedly defended Haifa against the crusaders, holding out in the besieged town for a whole month (June–July 1099) in fierce battles"(Wikipedia). The crusades mercilessly murdered the Jews. The crusades believed that all non-christians were enemies.

Question~ What did the Jews think of all the other groups?(Europeans, Muslims, Byzantine)

Europeans~ The Europeans were mostly Christian. The Jews didn't dislike the Christians, but it wasn't a mutual feeling. The Christians despised anybody that wasn't Christian even the Jews. Jews didn't think that anybody was better or worse. They believed in equality

Muslims~ The Muslims assisted the Jews against the Christians. The Muslims also lived in Jerusalem at the time. "The Muslims helped hold off the Europeans for a while. The Jews liked the Muslims since they assisted them in battle. Jews fought side-by-side with Muslim soldiers to defend Jerusalem against the Crusaders" (Wikipedia).

Byzantine~ The Byzantine Empire mostly consisted of Christians. So the Byzantines were like the Europeans to the Jews.
