British Imperialism
By~ Madison Manning

I personally think that British Imperialism was harmful towards India, for many different reasons. The British East India Company was created to control trade between Britain, India, and East Asia. Later on when India started to break up into small states, The British took over most of India.

When the British were in India all they did was use up all of the Indian's materials which made the Indian's very mad. The British never asked weather it was okay to user up all of the Indian's produce. The Indian's eventually rebelled against the British and were later punished.

When the British wanted to have jobs in India they took all the higher positions in government. When this happened the Indian's were left with no jobs, but the British payed no mind. The Indians didn't agree with most of the things the British did.

The British banned certain Indian customs and made certain laws against things that the Indians believed in. The British banned almost all of the Indians religions (such as Muslim, Hinduism, Sati, etc.) and only wanted the Indians to practice Christianity. During the war, the British invented a new type of cartridge for their rifles. The Sepoy soldiers (Indian soldiers in British Army) needed to first bite of the end of the  cartridge before inserting it into their rifle. The cartridges were greased in pork and beef fat, which offended the Sepoy's because it was against their religion. This caused a huge rebellion against the British, called The Sepoy Mutiny.

During the war, whenever one of the soldiers died the army was required to file a death report in order to get another soldier in his place. The British decided that when one of the Sepoy soldiers died, they were not going to file a death report, because the British didn't want the wife of the soldier to throw herself on the husbands pyre (which was what the wife would do when her husband died according to the religion, Sati).

In my opinion one of the only good things that the British brought to India was good education for the children.

Your information backed up your argument extremely well. Next time you get a similar project, try to get more information for the counter-argument.
