Inferences in the Modern World
An Inference is the act or process of coming to a conclusion from details you notice in a picture, movie, article, etc.
"I sit at the table and she hands me a plate. The thought of all that food turns my stomach, but I force a smile and thank my mother again. She busies herself at the sink and fills the silence with chatter. When she turns around, she takes in the waffles still on my plate, only missing a few bites." - Perfect, a fiction story on Teen Ink
An inference you could make from this is that the girl in the story has an eating disorder because she says "The thought of all that food turns my stomach" and she says that the waffles were still on her plate, only a few bites taken out of them.
"Be sure to dress appropriately. Put on your puffy winter coat, hat, scarf, and gloves. Do not forget your traction boots. Call to let them know you are coming."-A Teenager's Guide to Paralysis
An inference you could make from this group of sentences is that it is cold outside because she must put on a coat, hat, and gloves.
