Primordial Dwarfism

Primordial Dwarfism : Failure of fetus to grow normally in the womb.


  • At birth primordial dwarfs usually weigh less than 3 pounds and are about 16 inches long.
  • Primordial dwarfs when born usually have some type of disability (Ex: Difficulty with speech, mental retardation, & learning disabilities)
  • All bones and organs are proportionally smaller which usually leads to a primordial dwarf having poor nutrition/digestive disorder.
  • Primordial dwarfs usually live up to 30 years old & their maximum height is roughly around 3 ft tall.

Causes: The cause of primordial dwarfism is unknown (Other forms of dwarfism usually have to do with genetic causes)

Detection: Possible amniocentesis & ultrasound will diagnose the fetus as a primordial dwarf.

Treatment: Since the cause is unknown there is no direct treatment. (Scoliosis, joint surgeries, & Therapy for speech and learning disorders are given)
