The diet of a walleye changes over its life time from invertebrates to small fish. The growth rate of the walleye depends on where it lives. Walleyes in the southern states grow faster and bigger than walleyes in the northern states. They usually grow to 31 inches long and 20 pounds but the world record Walleye is 42 inches long and 25 pounds. They can live up to 29 years. The walleye is a cool water species. Walleyes prefer hard bottoms than silt muddy bottoms. Shallow rocky shorelines are there preferred spawning grounds. Walleyes are calm when they are just swimming around but when you are hooked into one the are very feisty and angry and not calm.
