Come Wander This Summer: Find Your Nowhere in Ontario's Highlands

"Sometimes, you find yourself in the middle of nowhere,
and sometimes, in the middle of nowhere, you find yourself."

PEMBROKE, ON (June 23, 2015) – The Ontario’s Highlands region invites visitors to “Dream Big, Go Nowhere” this summer, leaving behind their busy nine-to-fives in the city for an opportunity to discover their perfect slice of “nowhere” – a special moment that breaks free from the commitments of daily life.

“From work meetings, to summer construction on the highway, to 30-minute line-ups for a simple cup of morning coffee, chances are that you spend a lot of time being ‘somewhere’ every day – and you never get a chance to stop and slow down,” says Kasia Wind, Communications Coordinator for the Ontario's Highlands Tourism Organization. “So when you think about your travel plans this summer, we have two words of advice: be spontaneous! Throw itineraries and schedules out the window, and let your inner wanderer be your guide – that person that you dream about being when you’re not stuck on your swivel chair or glued to your smartphone. ”

Imagine waking up in a place where your imagination and authentic sense of discovery are the only compass you will need. Located just a few hours away from Toronto and Ottawa, Ontario’s Highlands lets you slow the pace while taking in our breath-taking small towns and countryside; feel all of your senses come to life as you explore our local farmer’s markets; be amazed by the limestone backdrop and “story of our Earth” as you tour an ancient underground cave; reconnect with your loved ones during a quirky festival; or find your true self in the last place you ever thought to look – on a secluded dock, surrounded by a moon-lit lake and a handful of new friends, during an outdoor concert – right in the middle of nowhere.

“Ontario’s Highlands is a magical, hidden place, where visitors can let go of their urban stresses and responsibilities, and truly recharge. Only here can you truly disconnect, have actual conversations with people, and spontaneously uncover something new about yourself,” says Wind. “This summer, we encourage visitors to look at ‘nowhere’ not just as a place, but as a state of mind. The possibilities for building your own ‘nowhere moment’ are endless in our region because they are deeply personal and created by you alone. No two moments are exactly alike, just as there is nowhere else like Ontario’s Highlands.”

Between June 1 and September 7, 2015, visitors can view a captivating #NowhereMoment collection at Ontarioshighlands.ca, as well as a series of “nowhere” itineraries designed to spark the imagination. Visitors also have an opportunity to win one of three customized “nowhere moment” trips to Ontario’s Highlands, each valued at $1,500, for sharing their own perfect #NowhereMoment –whatever it means to them. Nowhere is waiting for you.
