New Orleans was inevitable for the Union occupation.It was also a place for the south to make weapons,ammo,and gun powder. A Union Flag-Officer David G. Farragut was with his squid and heading up toward the Mississippi River.They got to New Orleans and demanded the city to surrender a day after they got there.Confederate General Mansfield Lovell send in Confedarate troops in to capture them.General B.F. Butler led 15,000 Union troops to capture New Orleans.After six days the Union captured New Orleans,Louisiana.More than 782 were killed and wounded.About 6,000 were captured.The battle cost more than 7,000 dollars.
