This is one of my favorite Scripture passages. I believe one way to preserve human dignity is allowing people to choose when we provide a service (even when we think the choice is obvious). Here, even when Jesus knew the man wanted to be healed, he preserved his dignity by letting him ask for the gift.
"Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.” So they called the blind man, saying to him, “Take courage; get up, he is calling you.” He threw aside his cloak sprang up, and came to Jesus. Jesus said to him in reply, “What do you want me to do for you?”
