Mobile Apps in Schools

helpful apps for K-12 teaching

TED:

Open source lectures and resources. Using this as a helpful tool or even a lecture replacement will keep kids informed and up to date. I personally would use this in a social studies class. Each student picks a TED talk that interests them and/or relates to the current unit and writes about it.

Edmodo:

This app is useful for both teachers and students. It's a PLN option for teacher as well as a mobile LMS option. You can grade, submit, discuss etc. all on one mobile app.

iAnnotate:

This tools allows you to easily highlight, and make notes on PDF files. This way students can add their personal notes to a PDF of the class notes. Great for secondary classrooms that involve huge influxes of information.

Skitch:

This app allows you to easily screenshot and export files. This makes handing in BYOD activities very easy.
