About north lawdale
Location: It is located on the west side of Chicago; bordered by South Lawndale, West Side, East Garfield Park, and West Garfield Park.
History: When it was first founded it was a haven for the Great Chicago Fire refugees. Then it turned into a Jewish ghetto consisting of Jews from Russia and Eastern Europe. Now it is currently home to African American residents of mostly low income.
Attractions: North Lawndale is home to Douglas Park, Malcolm X College, Peace Museum, and Mt. Sinai Hospital.
Fun fact: Martin Luther King Jr. centered his northern civil rights movement in North Lawndale.
