Carrying Capacity-

The longest number of individuals that an enviorment can support.

{For an animal to survive they need food,water,shelter,and land to live on.}


A chimpanzees ecosystem changes over time depending on the availability of habitat resources. Chimpanzees eat mainly fruits/plants in ecosystem,when the season changes to a cold climate or when there is not enough sunlight for all plants(limited resource) the chimpanzees must find something else to eat. They normally eat some insects if there are no fruits/plants to eat,but some bugs react to different climates and may stay hidden. Some chimpanzees may die but when it gets warm and enough sunlight the chimpanzees population grows.

Limiting factors

An environmental factor(food,water,home,and land) that tends to limit the population size.

Ex: Plants/fruits for chimpanzees limits population

Lizards/small birds/especially fruits for toco toucans limits the population

Boa constructor VS. mice

One of a boa constructors prey is the mouse,boa constructors wrap themselves around prey tight enough until they die then they swallow the prey whole. Mice don't really have an advantage so if they come across a boa they are no more than dead meat. If the mice meets with a boa constructor,the boa would wrap itself around the mice until it's dead then eat it whole. They limiting factors that could effect the animals are when there are little amount of grass(due to lack of sun)the mice would die and the boa would loose its main food source. then the boa would start to die with lack of food.

Energy Roles:

Producer-Organisms that make their own food by photosynthesis.Ex: Kapok tree

Consumers-Organisms that do not make their own food;they feed on other animals or plants.Ex: Jambu fruit dove, Bengal tiger(Herbivores,Carnivores,Omnivores,and Scavengers)

Decomposers-Organisms that break down waste and dead organisms and return the nutrients back to the environment.Ex: Earthworms

Producers get their energy from the sun

Consumers get their energy from plants and animals.

Decomposers get their energy from dead organism.                                       


Producers are a very important part of the ecosystem. Producers get their energy from the sun and change radiant energy to chemical energy so that animals can get the energy they need by eating plants. If the plants did not change the energy from the sun then it would impact everything...the first level organisms would not be able to get the energy from the plants and would die off. The second levels would loose its source of food and would not get energy,and the third level would also die off because of lack of food and energy. Producers play a big part in the ecosystem.

Food web VS. Food chain:

Food webs are more realistic than food chains because they show more possibilities of energy transferred. A food chain is made up of series of events in which one organism eats another to gain energy and a food web is made up of overlapping food chain giving more possibilities of energy transferring between organism.

What would happen if...

If I were to take out the whole bobcat population it would effect all of the other populations in the ecosystem. The black tip rabbit,the western whiptails,the ringtail,and the pine martens population would grow(yet the would still decrease from other predators). The black rabbit,the western whiptails,the ringtail, and the pine martens prey would decrease because of to many predators. All animals in population would eventually die because they would not get energy from their long gone prey leading to a small ecosystem.

Producer level-10,000kcal.          10%

The pyramid shape shows the amount of energy as it passes from producer to consumer. It decrease the size to show that the energy is coming less available from one tropic level to the is better than shapes like the cylinder or a cube because it doesn't show the amount of energy decreasing.

The producers are the largest level because it has the most energy(the energy hasn't been used up and passed on). The top predators are in the smallest level because it's prey have used up 90% of its energy and passes on 10% so the amount goes down.

Chemical equation for photosynthesis:


                                Carbon Dioxide  Water                                 Glucose           Oxygen

You need Carbon Dioxide,Water,and Sunlight for photosynthesis. It makes glucose and oxygen in photosynthesis.

Where does Photosynthesis take place? Photosynthesis takes place in the choroplast in the leaf cells.


Turning or bending moment of an organism forward or away from an external stimulus,such as light,heat,or gravity.

Ex: orchids,strangler fig,bromeliads

Tropism helps the plants survive by moving the plants to or away from the sun,gravity,and heat.  Plants would not survive without Tropism.


Decomposers are vital to an ecosystem because they give nutrients to plants and to the soil.

If there were no decomposers then plants would not get enough nutrients and they would die and start a chain reactions with all the animals including humans would die.

Examples of decomposers:








Adaptations help an organism survive by camouflage,hunt,venom,spray,gills, etc. Adaptations are when animals adapt to there surrounding or change to survive in the ecosystem.


Mountain lions-claws

Vampire bats-vangs

Venus fly trap-it can tell when insects are on top of it


Dip Tip trees-leaves have drip tips to drain water

If I were to place an organism from my enviorment into another enviorment then the animal would try to adapt to the environment but it would take many generations. The population would decrease and after many generations then the population would increase.

Natural Selection-

Natural selection is the process in nature by which organisms that are better adapted to their environment tend to survive longer and pass on more genetic charecteristics to succeeding generations than do those that are less well adapted. It is important for an organism so those that are better adapted will pass down there good traits and the next generations of organism will survive better.

Ex: When dark colored lizards and white colored lizards live in a shaded area or dark area the dark will die off and the white colored lizards are camoflaged  so the population would thrive because of natural selection.
