Dismemberment although a very uhhhh... descriptive word can be used to describe the industrial revolution as a whole. Safety was disregarded as entrepreneurs made a mad dash for all the money they could get their hands on. The reason you may ask why did the companies put their workers in harms way? They owners could do whatever they wanted without having to worry about safety regulations. Mills and factories usually went the cheapest route sending children crawling by rotating gears and needles. Owners didn't care if the children lost limbs or even died because another child would fill their spot. Peoples mindset towards work was different from now to then, there was such a lack of work that people took whatever they could get even if the jobs were dangerous. Thus leading to of course... dismemberment.
