William Lloyd Garrison

Born in Newburyport, Massachusetts in 1805. He was the son of a merchant sailing master. Father deserted the family in 1808. In 1818, Garrison began working Newburyport Herald as a writer and editor. When he was 25 he joined the abolitionist movement.
On January 1, 1833, He published the first issue of the newspaper, Liberator, which was his own anti-slavery newspaper. He also had many other anti-slavery publications besides, Liberator. He was very supportive of anti-slavery, even though he believed the constitution was a pro slavery document unlike many other abolitionists.
