Poem: Do not go gentle into that good night

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light

Dylan Thomas

Reflection:

I think the narrator of this poem is trying to say that people should resist death as strongly as they can. The narrator says that people should only leave the world kicking and screaming, mad that they have to die at all. He also tells us that we shouldn't just give up on life and we should fight for as long as we can. The narrator explains that when you’re old you should still love life and live it to the fullest until your time comes. At the end of the poem it seemed like the narrator is pleading to his father to not give up on his life. I think that the narrator is in a way mad at his father for having to die. He doesn't want his father to leave him so he is urging him to resist death. He wants his father to not just willingly die. I think that his father is probably ready to die but the narrator is not ready for him to go. This poem was really good, and though it took a while to figure out, the point got through.

Song: Here Comes the Sun

Here comes the sun, here comes the sun,
and I say it's all right

Little darling, it's been a long cold lonely winter

Little darling, it feels like years since it's been here

Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
and I say it's all right

Little darling, the smiles returning to the faces
Little darling, it seems like years since it's been here
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
and I say it's all right

Sun, sun, sun, here it comes...
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes...
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes...
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes...
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes...

Little darling, I feel that ice is slowly melting
Little darling, it seems like years since it's been clear
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun,
and I say it's all right
It's all right

Reflection:

This song was written by George Harrison. He is a member of my favorite band, "The Beatles". I think he wrote this song because winter in England, ( He lived in England), goes on forever and is grey and cold. I think that by the time spring comes along he probably does not ever want to let it go or give up on it. Harrison hopes that the long cold lonely winter will pass so that he can enjoy happy times in the sun. The sun always brings warmth and color to everything. I think that he expressed his feelings on how much he misses the sun through this song. It is about tomorrow, and the optimism it brings. It gives you a feeling of something great coming. This something is happiness. This is one of my favorite songs because it has no negativity and gives you a sense of happiness and hope.
