Daddy plz plz plz be careful!!! Plz come home soon!-John

This picture was taken when I was 27 years old. My beautiful wife, Nancy, had just had two wonderful children. John, and Mary. Right now I am 43 years old. I have 4 children now too. William and Elizabeth. I own 14 slaves. They all help me out a lot with the work around the house and out of the house. My family means everything to me. If i loose them I will never be myself again. I live in Dallas, Texas. I own a huge cotton gin bussiness. Without me slaves I would be living out on the streets. Owning them slaves have really impacted me life. #family #kids #life #YOLO #bio

You better free those slaves soon or else I'm gonna make you!!!- Abe

OMG!!! I just met Jeremiah Handley, I got a interview with him, and I got a photo of him. I asked him What made him choose to stay with his mom. He answered that he cares about his mom and wanted to stay with her and make her feel better. He wanted to be there for her in case anything happened. Another question that I asked him was what is something in your life that your're proud of. He answered that he was really happy that he can fight in war and fight for his belief." Another question that I asked him was what is something in your life that you would have done different. He answered "I would properly go with my brother to war, that way I would always be with him and know what happened to him, rather than thinking of what happend to him. I still think of him till this day." The last question I asked him was what will you do now. He answered "I will try going back to my home down and start a family. I would love to have a couple of children. I would tell then about the war and how I survived." #awesome #Jeremiah #interview

I miss you so much, but that's really cool that you got to interview him-Nancy

That was a fun interview-Jermiah

Our camp is located in Richmond, Virginia. It's really far away from here. Our daily schedule is to wake up at 5:00 and we get ten minutes to change into our training uniform. Then we get thirty minutes to eat breakfast. We start training at 6:00 and ends at 13:00. We get a thirty minute break. This is when I can update my post and send mail. Then at 13:30 we start our second training lesson. Up until the sun sets. Then we are free to go and do whatever we want as long it does't cause problems.

4/1/1863

We finally got to do some training. First we learned how to march and listen to orders. The generals commanding the orders was really strict. One guy didn't do what he said and had to chop wood. Another man talked back to the commander and got punished with "bucking and gagging". I felt bad for the man. He couldn't do anything. He was sitting on the ground with his hands together with a stick in between his arm and knee. I'm glad that wasn't me. They thought us how to stay in formation and what happens when someone falls in front of us. I learned some new commands too like "Attention". Then we went of for musket training. There we practiced firing, loading, and cleaning the musket. It was really tiring. Then we went to our tents and talked about our day. There's more training tomorrow. It will be some much "fun"! I hope everything is fine back at home. I miss you guys! #training#boring #tiring #missyou #seeyousoon #love

I just wrote my own song!!!! It goes like this...

Campfire Song

Sitting around the campfire

Singing Johnny comes marching

Sitting around the campfire

drinks and jokes all around

Sitting around the campfire

(CHORUS)

Hurrah!

Hurrah!

Singing the Campfire Song!

Hurrah!

Hurrah!

Singing all night long

Singing around the Campfire

Battle Cry of Freedom

Singing around the Campfire

the Battle Hymn

Singing around the Campfire

(CHORUS)

Eating around the Campfire

Eating Salt Pork and coffee

Eating around the Campfire

Fruits and veggies

Eating around the Campfire

(CHORUS)

Drinking around the Campfire

Wine and water

Drinking around the Campfire

Coffee and juice

Drinking around the Campfire

(CHORUS)

I got really bored so my tent pals and I came up with this wonderful and jolly song. It took a long time, but it was worth it. #bored #music #songs

That's a really neat song I'm singing it right now-Johnny

We should publish that song-your tent buddy

Hi guys, I'm back. Sorry I haven't posted anything in a while. I have been busy with all the fun I have been having. Here is a photo of the pals and me playing cards. I won that game. Some stuff that I do to pass the time is play cards and go to musical concerts. Even though it cost twenty-five cents, it's worth it. There's not much to do here. Since the weather is starting to change and it is becoming winter we don't do many drills at all and we move into more comfortable shelters. The food here isn't that great and not very fresh either. I personally actually like the raw beef unlike others. It's not great, but it's the best they got. Camp is becoming a bit more fun. We have more free time and sometimes you can sleep in a bit late since there are not that many drills left to do. #fun #cards #winner #music #life#confederates

Lol that was sooo much fun!!! Btw I won that-your cabin buddy

I remember when we would invite guest and play cards for money-

I am so depressed right now. Two days ago we were fighting in our first battle. After all that training we finally got to see what we were capable of. Everything was going great until my BFF just shot right below the knee. It was terrible. I took him onto the first ambulance I could find. When we got to the hospital they amputated his knee. It was disgusting. Surprisingly he survived. But now I am even more nervous because he got typhoid fever. He is starting to get a lot of diarrhea. I've seen many people die from diarrhea because they get dehydrated. They don't have any clean or fresh water. He refuses to drink the dirty water because he is afraid of getting another disease, which is also very common in this hospital. I will let you guys know how he is tomorrow. Miss you guys!!! #hospital #war #confederates #bye

Omg you come home right now, you re going to get hurt!!!!!-Nancy

Daddy pleaseeeee be careful!!!! I need you-Johnnny

I just came home after I was severely injured while helping my friends who got his leg amputated. The Union came and ambushed the hospital. We barely got out alive. My friend and I were sent home. We are no longer a use. I came home yesterday, happy to see that nothing has changed while I was gone. My children and wife were perfectly fine. As soon as I saw them I hugged all of them. I was even happy to see my slaves. The farm is still in business. I had a huge celebration. The slaves got off from work. They said they were very grateful, and even if they were free, they would stay with me. That really meant a lot to me. Right now I am so grateful to be here, with my family, I can't even feel the pain in my leg. I am planning to help my wife in the kitchen tomorrow. #pain #donewithwar #family #love
