Sherman's march was to harsh
Destroying all that was in his path
Sherman's march was irrelevant because they were already winning the war. Sherman didn't have to destroy everything in is path because the union were already in good shape in the war. I do not understand how he had to take the war off of the battle field. The union army were already out numbering the confederate by almost double. World war 2 also involved total warfare because it wasn't fought just on the battle field it involved innocent people. The Fire bombing on dresden is what made world war 2 total warfare the bombing killed 25,000 people and destroying hundreds of thousands buildings.
