Oregon  University

1859, Congress required Oregon’s founders to establish a public university. That university is us. Oregon’s pioneers were more concerned with eking out a living than in the refinements of higher education. But in the early 1870s, Judge Joshua Walton convinced residents of Eugene City to become home to what would become the fledgling state’s flagship university.Today, more than 24,000 students, from all 50 states and more than 95 countries, study at Oregon. But our early years were not without their challenges. We nearly closed in 1881 because of a debt of $8,182. Railroad magnate Henry Villard donated $7,000 to pay it down. We named our second building after him.In 1885, the university received its first appropriation from the legislature, for $30,000. That funding increased to $47,500 by 1901.On two occasions, in 1913 and again in 1932, efforts to combine the UO with what is now Oregon State University in Corvallis were thwarted—no doubt to the relief of Ducks and Beavers alike

The reason I want to go this college is because of the criminal/Law Enforcement program. I have heard so much about this university and how the program is, i would really like to see how the university is and how the professors work. Therefore it would be a pleasure to attend this university and to learn and get experience for law enforcement.

Campus Life:

The campus life in Oregon University is that they have many sports given out in the university. Mainly for women sports scholarships are given out except for baseball. For Men Sports not many scholarships are offered in the sport, but there are some sports that do give scholarships. Lastly, there are many student activities and organizations such as: Bands, dance, theater, newspaper, film, etc.

Career

The career for me would be police, or become part of the SWAT. This career is best for me because it shows how strong I can be and what dangerous activities I would like to face. Law Enforcement can give me more strength and give me a more experience in the future. The duties of a police officer, also known as a law enforcement officer, focus on protecting people and property. They patrol the areas they are assigned, which sometimes include entire jurisdictions, respond to calls, enforce laws, make arrests, issue citations, and occasionally testify in court cases. They often make traffic stops, respond to domestic disturbances, and, at times, provide first aid to someone involved in a traffic accident or injured in a domestic dispute until paramedics arrive. Much of their time is divided between patrolling, writing reports, and filling out forms. In fact, police officers now also perform the immigration duties once exclusive to INS agents, meaning that INS agents are now essentially police officers. Before you can become a police officer, you must first meet the minimum qualifications.

Additional Information

According to a 2011 report by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, police officers, including SWAT team members, have an average base salary of $56,260 a year. Police officers in New Jersey are the highest paid in the nation with average salaries of $81,970. Among metropolitan areas, the highest wages are paid to police officers in the Los Angeles, Glendale and Long Beach area of California. These officers earn an average annual salary of $85,620.

Police officers are responsible for enforcing the law. A police officer’s typical day is usually less exciting and less dangerous than how it is portrayed on TV; most spend the majority of their time either patrolling neighborhoods or on traffic duty.

Officers patrol areas on foot, motorcycle, bicycle, or in a police car. This allows them to accomplish a variety of objectives: discourage crime through their high visibility, maintain community relations by speaking with the public, and become familiar with the area where they work and with any problems that exist.

While on patrol, officers are always prepared to respond to calls for service. They may be called to any type of situation where people have been injured, the public peace is being disturbed, or a crime has been committed. Common occurrences they are called to include assaults, domestic disputes, robberies, car accidents, fires, and noisy parties.
