Mrs. Anna-Marie Carr
Teacher, Norton Elementary
My name is Anna-Marie Carr.
This is my thirteenth year teaching second graders at Norton Elementary School in Louisville, Kentucky. I graduated from IUS with a Bachelors degree in 2001, earned my Masters degree in 2009, and am currently fifteen hours into my Rank 1 working toward the Technology License.
This year I have attended professional development that was provided through my school where we can meet the specific needs of our grade level teams and our students. We trained on Close Reading strategies to further support our students' mastery of comprehension and vocabulary.
I love teaching second graders. It is my professional mission to create an environment within which children feel comfortable participating in the learning process. It is my responsibility and desire to provide activities and experiences that are engaging and meaningful so that these children will become productive members of society. Continuing my education reaffirms my belief that we must all be lifelong learners. The skills, knowledge, and reflection that I have gained from these graduate courses will certainly enhance learning experiences for my students.
I have a flexible structure within my classroom that allows students to experience activities in a meaningful way. Currently, I use the SmartBoard, and document camera to engage all students in learning activities as well as various interactive websites. I am most excited about Gonoodle.com which is a website for "brain-breaks". Here we can engage in phyisical, kinesthetic, academic activities that enhance our current learning in a unique way. I am also a fan of remind.com for parent communications. It is a quick and easy way to remind parents of important events throughout the week.
The Louisville area has been my home my entire life. My husband, David, and I have been married for 10 years and have three dogs and a cat. Hank, Annie, Jack and Angel are all important members of our family. We spend a lot of time with our young nieces. I love to spend time with family and friends, play with our pets, maintain our flower gardens, and we usually have some type of home improvement project going on. I love anything purple. In fact, I only check papers with a purple pen!
When I need to recharge... I play this.
