The ocean covers 3/4 of our planet. That is a lot of water. The tides are caused by the Earth rotating while the sun and the moon's gravitational pull acts on the ocean water. The Pacific ocean is Earth's biggest ocean. The Atlantic is the second biggest ocean.
A coral reef is a community of living organisms made up of plants, fish, and a lot of other different living creatures. Coral reefs are home to 25% marine life. They grow best in the warm, shallow, clear, and sunny places most of the ocean floor is covered with coral reefs.
Creatures in the Ocean
All kinds of creatures live in the ocean! The electric eel can produce enough electricity to power ten light bulbs. Octopuses have three hearts and their blood is blue. An animal that lives on every continent except Antarctica is the turtle. A sea sponge has no brain, lungs, feelers, heart, bones, mouth, eyes, or head yet it is a live. The heart of a shrimp is in its head.
