3rd Grade Rocks and Minerals
Introduction Lesson

You have probably seen rocks in streams, in the soil, and by the road--you can find rocks almost anywhere.  Rocks have been around for a very long time and have fascinated people for centuries.  People who lived long ago during the Stone Age used rocks for tools such as, hammers, knives, fire starters and more.  Centuries ago Africans made figurines out of bronze, gold and other metals.  Egyptians built the pyramids, the Chinese built the Great Wall, and Anasazi Native Americans built their houses in the sides of cliffs.  Americans carved faces into a mountain to honor the presidents. How do you use rocks?  How else are rocks used today?
