College and Career
Western Michigan University School of Music
Western Michigan University School of Music was established in 1905. The university I selected was the Western Michigan University School of Music because my love for music is unexplainable and having a actual career in music would be beyond amazing. The school's first ever orchestra was in 1905. It is the only School of Music in Michigan to offer a four-summer master's program in music education. Students have come from 12 countries and 25 states. I personally find the fact that pursuing a career in music is beyond amazing because I have been around music since I was a baby and I have gone touring with my father who was also in a spanish band. I loved roaming the world and seeing new people and watching my dad onstage just play music and sing, which by the way is where I got my great singing vocals from. The Western Michigan University School of Music's freshmen class had an average high school GPA of 3.63.
Admission to the School of Music is selective and competitive. Each year, close to 400 students audition for approximately 90 openings. The most recent freshman class boasted an average high school GPA of 3.63, and an average ACT composite of close to 25—the highest academic profile of any entering population across the University.
Life on the university can be very academic and entertaining as well. The activities and recreation at the university offer open recreation, intramural sports and fitness programs. The WMU also offers Career advising, Career events, Career planning and assessment, Student jobs and employment, Internships/cooperative education, and Mentor programs. You can also sign up for Search and apply for student jobs, Sign-up for on-campus interviews and events, Publish resumes online or search resume book, and Post jobs. They offer food and even have their own Subway, in-case you hate eating house food. There is also apartments that you can rent out Elmwood, Goldsworth Valley, and Stadium Drive.
Why This is My Career Path
Being a singer and earning money for it has been my dream since I was a baby. My father would take me on tour with and I absolutely loved being on the road and watching him perform for thousands of people. Just the fact that his songs brought joy to people influenced me to want to follow his path and make save lives and make people's day better by hearing my song. I have always been around music since day one, been on tours and recording studios for a very long time. I loved every minute of it would do anything to have that success my father has in the music industry. I personally would love to become a rockstar and tour all over the world and bring smiles to people. Music has saved my life because of the meaning of the lyrics and how they reflected on my life. I have been through a lot as a child growing up so I would love to let my feelings out into a song.

Necessities/Earnings (My Career)
Well all singers are paid differently but generally, they are paid for their performance. Fees for singers who perform at weddings and similar events usually start at about $100 for those with little experience, while an established and more known singer can earn more than $1,000 per event. Unionized opera singers have their minimum pay rates negotiated for them by performers’ unions. Chorus singers can earn $700 or more a week, while opera soloists can make upwards of $1,000 a week. The yearly salary is between 20k and more than 100k, sometimes even lower than 20k. Singers are music professionals who entertain audiences with their vocal performances of musical arrangements. The benefits of being a singer is the fact that hundreds and maybe even millions of people hear your voice and pay just to see you perform for them. Another amazing benefit would be that you can travel around the world living new experiences and meeting new people and many new singers as well. Educational requirements depend on the type of music you want to pursue. If you want to be an opera singer, you generally need years of formal training. Popular singers do not necessarily need formal training, but it can be extremely helpful. Start by taking music classes in high school, and, if possible, by taking private voice lessons outside of school. After high school, you can train at the post-secondary level. Music programs are offered by colleges and private institutes across the country. Many of these programs offer specializations in vocal performance, and some even provide training in a specific style of music, such as opera or jazz. They usually take 2 to 4 years to complete, and lead to an associate or a bachelor’s degree.
There is two primary sources in how to start out your career as a singer songwriter. First primary source would be Andrew , who has a link where you can ask him questions about how he first started out his band and what he did to be successful. Another primary source would have to be Jennifer who also has many answers as to how she got to where she is today and her story of how that ended up her career.
"The School of Music at Western Michigan University is dedicated to music as an art form that elevates the lives of all who experience it; that embraces and transcends the entire range of human emotion, expression and community that is vital to the cultural enrichment of society."
