Teach Like A Pirate
"One hundred victories in one hundred battles is not the most skillful. Subduing the other's military without battle is the most skillful." -sun Tzu
Here is our schedule.....
May 1st - Passion and Immersion
May 8th - Rapport and Ask and Analyze
May 15th- Transformation and Enthusiasm
May 22nd - Part II: Crafting engaging lessons
May 29th - Part III: Building a better pirate
The big take away from this chapter is that you have to care about and be involved in your students' lives. You need to get to know your students in order to effectively engage them. As we know, an engaged student is rarely a behavior problem. "Kids can tell the difference between the teachers who only seem to care about them when they are sitting in the classroom, and those who see past the student to the unique person who resides inside."
The level of energy and enthusiasm the author has in this chapter is amazing. His plan for the first 3 days of school is a sure way to get to know your students better and kick of your year in a high energy and fun way! Let me know if you want copies of his first 3 days....I promise it is worth the reading.
Ask and Analyze
This section is all about the creative process and asking good question. No one is creative by accident it takes time, energy and effort to be creative. "Creative ideas don't come out of the blue; they came from engaging in the creative process. That critical process starts when you ask the right types of questions and then actively seek the answers."
"The quality of your questions determines the quality of your answers and the type of question determines the type of ideas your brain will receive and conceive."
"Be proactive in your pursuit of your vision for your classroom and life. The Law of Attraction is real. Your thoughts are magical and have the power to manifest your dreams but not without your active participation int he process." LOVE IT!!
