An Important Event Of History

The Crusades
Christian's Perspective

Jerusalem meant a lot to Christians...

It was very important. It was a place where some key events in Jesus's life occurred. It was where he prayed, lived, and crucified. It had always been of significance to God. We felt we had to take control of Jerusalem to preserve and capture this holy place because it meant worshipping God. Do it for Jesus.

Cause of the Crusades...

"The Crusades were religiously and economically motivated military campaigns aimed at conquering the Holy Land from the Muslims" (Aatif Rashid). "Religious reasons obviously played a role. Fiery preachers in the countryside inspired others, and some even led crusades of their own. Some crusaders hoped to win wealth and land. Some crusaders sought to escape troubles at home. Others yearned for adventure" (Hallam, Elizabeth).

Crusades impacted...

We gained Jerusalem, reunited the Christians and had a lasting effect on the European economy. Trade routes were opened, and new markets were made. Also, "The Crusades had a major impact on the building of castles" (Trueman, Chris).

What we thought of the Jews and Byzantines...

Our perspective of Jews stay unsure. We always find ourselves wondering if we should make all the Jews to turn Christianity, or to let Jews practice their religion but still remind them that Christianity is more superior than Judaism by restricting them from doing certain things. "The Byzantine Empire, the eastern successor to the Roman Empire based in Constantinople, played a major part in the Crusades, and though the East-West Schism had divided the Byzantine Eastern Orthodox Church from the Roman Catholic Church in the West, the two maintained good relations" (Aatif Rashid).
