2013 was epic for me. After 10 years with the same company (Starbucks) I was offered an unpaid sabbatical of 6 months. I cashed in my life savings and chased my dream of traveling around the world and climbing the highest freestanding mountain on the planet. My journey began with the successful summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Part of that dream was to 'give back' so I collected 1200 pairs of SmartWool socks and personally transported and donated them to the Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project. Then I traveled to Rwanda where I helped build a footbridge with the nonprofit Bridges to Prosperity. The perspective that travel and volunteer work offers is rewarding beyond words or photos. I continued to travel to Thailand, New Zealand and China. I also filmed/interviewed Starbucks employees about their dreams to create a digital story piece about living your dreams within your job. We all struggle to accomplish our dreams, the first step is telling yourself it's worth it and you deserve it.
