Lake Victoria

By: Max

The Victoria is the 2 largest freshwater lake and it is located on the equator in the African Great Lakes. It borders Kenya, mainland Tanzania, and Uganda. It is 210 miles long and is 150 miles wide.                                                                                                                  The rivers outflow is into the Victoria Nile and the Victoria Nile flows into the white Nile, while its main inflow is the Kangera River. The Owen falls dam ( in Uganda) is the main controller over the flow of the water.                                                                                                                   The dam provides electricity for neighboring areas. Lake Victoria was named by John H. Speke who named it after the queen of Britain Queen Victoria.  It is between the 2 arms of the great rift valley. It is one of the chief reservoirs feeders of the Nile. Lake Victoria causes the rocks in it to wear down causing many cichild species to be extinct.
