Chinua Achebe was born November 16, 1930, in Ogidi, Anambra, Nigeria. Growing up Achebe was surrounded by the traditions of Igbo and the colonial legacy.He had a scholarship to study medicine, his love for literature and the involvement in African nationalism led him to change his career. He began to study literature at the University of Ibadan. After graduating, he worked for a Nigerian Broadcasting company in Lagos. While pursuing his dreams, his novel "Things Fall Apart" became his glory to fame. It was translated into 45 different languages and sold 8 million copies. Chinua Achebe died on March 21, 2013, at the age of 82, in Boston, Massachusetts. He will always be remembered as the 'father of modern African Literature'.
