Herbivores are animals that only eat plants. Herbivores have mouth parts that adapted to rasping or grinding. They also have flat teeth good for eating leaves and grasses. Giraffes have long necks that help them get the leaves from trees. a group of herbivores called ruminants have specialized stomachs for digestion. Ruminant stomachs have more than one chamber. When a ruminant eats grass or leaves it goes into the first chamber. Then specialized bacteria breaks down the food. Some herbivores only eat dead plants. These herbivores are called detritivores. Some herbivores are insects. Like grasshoppers or caterpillars. Other herbivores only eat one part of a plant. So as you can see herbivores are very interesting types of creatures.
