“Ohio” by Neil Young (1971)

Imagery- The song describes a sense of a long, dark and depressing war. It gives the image of the dead students lying in the road.

Syntax- The song only has 2 different verses that are each sung twice. There is also slow, long guitar solo half way in the song.

Diction- The words dead, down, and cutting are three words that bring out the tone of the song. The word tin soldiers shows hate toward the National Guard. The music is slow and creepy which helps bring out the sad, depressing feelings of the words and war.

Details- This song declares a message that we should end the war, and it tells the story of the Ken State shooting.

Tone- I used the word sorrowful to describe the tone of the music, and the word aggravated to describe the tone of the lyrics.
