Chicago Cardinal Dies After Long Battle with Cancer
After a long battle Chicago's Cardnial Francis George died of cancer on Friday. The Cardnial had stepped down from his position recentally after his third cancer diagnosis. Cardnial George grew up in Chicago. At the age of thirteen Cardnial George had polio. Cardnial George had to over come dificulties to become a priest. Because of the limp that polio had left him with he was turned away from Quigley Preparatory Seminary in Chicago but he still wanted to be a priest so he attended St. Henry Preparatory Seminary near St. Louis instead (Cardnial Dies After Cancer Struggle). He was appointed to be Cardnial by Pope John Paul II in 1990 replacing Cardinal Joseph Bernardin. Late last year when he retired he was replaced by Blase Cupich. People will miss him very much, but they will remember him as a strong man that was able to over come sickness and didn't let polio, or ever being diagnosed with cancer three times get in his way.
