The National Republican Party, Democratic Party, Anti-Masonic Party and the Whig Party
The national Republican Party was formed after the Democratic Party fell apart. Adams supporters formed the National Republican Party and Jackson supporters formed the Democratic Party. The national Republican Party wanted to use national resources to build a strong economy. After Clay's defeat the Whig party was formed from the NRP and the Anti-Masonic party. The Whig party operated from the early 1830s to the mid 1850s and was formed in opposition to Jackson's Democratic Party. The Anti-Masonic party, the first "third party" fell apart and many members joined the Whig party.
