European Explorers

Ms. Sockwell Fourth Grade Social Studies

You will be going on an exploration to find out the reasons, challenges, and successes o the Spanish, French, and English explorations of John Cabot, Juan Ponce de Leon, Christopher Columbus, Vasco Nunez Balboa, Henry Hudson, and Jacques Cartier.

Using the links you will find in the explorers folder on our edmodo page, you will research the explorer you have been assigned. You will take notes on your explorer answering the following questions:

1. Who did they sail for? (what country)

2. What were they looking for?

3. Where did they end up exploring?

4. What obstacles did they encounter?

5. What did they achieve?

These questions and answers should be placed into your social studies folder as listed in the table of contents. After you have completed your research, you will be put in a group and will share with the others in your group what you have learned about your explorer. You will be the expert! You will then learn about the explorer that each of the others in your group researched. When you are finished, you will be creating a newspaper article to publish about one of these explorers.
