Film Editing

NYU has a great film editing program. In this program, you'll learn how to edit video's for films, television, movies, etc. You'll learn how to cut clips, add clips together, add music to the clip, and even adding special effects such as explosions for action movies. Not only is this program interesting, but it's also very fun. You'll use your imagination and creativity tin ways you didn't even know you could.

Even though some people may think of film editing as boring, I would strongly disagree. Not only will you be using your own creativity and imagination with this career, but you'll also have the chance to t famous celebrities! You can meet actors such as Angelina Jolie, Robert Downey Jr., Channing Tatum, and so on! And let's be serious, who wouldn't want to meet someone famous?

Career Description

Film Editing includes a lot of benefits, like the salary for example. When barely starting on editing, the hourly entry wage would be $20.00 an hour. But if you keep at it, it'll soon prove to be worth it. Once you become better and better, the hourly wage will increase to $32.56, and then increase even more to $51.01 per hour! However, receiving these raises will take a lot of hard work.

Time taken up from this career could go from 40 to 60 hours a week. Not only that but during this time editors might spend a lot of time alone. And to even begin working as a film editor, it is recommended that you have a bachelors degree in film making. It's also recommended that you gain some experience. When applying for this career, people can be very competitive. Don't worry though! As long as you stay determined, there's nothing that can get in your way. There's even colleges who offer master’s degrees in the area of film production. They can give you an edge on those who just have a bachelor’s degree and may also offer the opportunity to work as an intern with a media company.

Primary Career Information Source

In career cruising, Krysha -- a co-owner for an editing company -- said some additional information that appealed to me. She said in her interview that film editing can be really difficult at times but that it proves to be worth it in the end.  She said that the feeling of seeing your finished work is more than satisfying.
