The Only Possible Choice
My dear King Charles II,
I ask you permission to explore the New World. I understand that you are seeking gold and other riches, and I can promise you that in these I will bring back aplenty. I am a hardworking young man from France who has wanted nothing more than to find new territories for as deserving a country as England. Even though I am a native Frenchman, I can assure you that I will work solely for England. I am sick of France and its pompous ways. If all goes well, I plan to leave in the spring of 1666.
For my expedition to be possible, I will need a few things from you. First of all, I ask for a crew of 24 strong, willing young men. Together, we will mine the gold and other riches you have asked for. Aside from the resources you have asked for, I will also scout the area I land in and bring back the rich natural resources that are abundant there. When I find interesting new things, I will collect samples of them and store them away for your entertainment. Another thing I will need is a boat that will comfortably hold myself and my crew, and the supplies we will take. Some other supplies I will need are enough food and water for my crew and I to live off of for one month. Hopefully, my exploration will last longer than this, but by the time the food runs out, we will have become accustomed to how to hunt the unique wildlife that lives in the New World. The last thing we will need is weapons. Each man in my crew needs one sword and one rifle. I, however will not need weapons because I can supply my own. If you have any other supplies that you think my crew and I will need, then feel free to send them with us on our trip.
I understand that you are probably getting proposals from lots of other men, and I will now convince you that I am the best for this voyage.
For starters, I am very open-minded and willing. I have a detailed plan in my head of what I need to do to make my voyage run smoothly. Of course, if you have any ideas that you think will make my voyage better, tell me at once and I will incorporate them into my plans. Another thing that makes me the best possible choice is that I am an accomplished sailor, so I will be able to navigate the seas with no problem whatsoever. I hope to land along the East coast of the New World, so that will take some careful steering on my part, but I will be able to do it. Finally, I can be competitive and determined, which will be very helpful since France and Spain are also trying to explore the New World. Sponsor me, so I can beat them to the land and claim it for England!
Some challenges that I might face are: native people, bad weather, and getting accustomed to different natural resources. I would handle conflict with native people by peacefully negotiating a deal and going our separate ways. Bad weather cannot be helped, but my men and I would build a sturdy shelter and use the natural resources to our advantage. We would get used to the unique natural resources the New World has to offer, and bring them back to you.
As I hope you can see, I am the only possible choice for exploring the New World. My unique qualities and traits make me a perfect fit for this position. Please choose me and you will not be sorry!
