At Forest Glen we had a student council election to choose our student leaders and representatives. People pick government leaders by having an election, too. They choose their leader by voting. People in towns and cities also vote for their mayor and council members.
Before an election, those who want to be leaders promise voters they will do a good job. Adults use newspapers, television, internet and radio to tell people about themselves. In many towns and cities, those who want to be elected hold meetings and explain why they would be good leaders.
Here is an advertisement from Barack Obama's election.
People listen to the candidates and decided who to vote for. When election day comes, people go inside a booth to vote. The person with the most votes wins.
