The Past is gone

The Great Gatsby's theme is that the past is gone forever and the future is just out of reach while the present is to real to understand and Jay Gatsby cannot understand that in this book because he wants the past to be present so he can have daisy for himself and she wont leave him but the past is something you can reflect on but you cant try to live there and try to recreate because it is simply gone. Even though Gatsby worked so hard and did so much for daisy he still wants to be in the past even though his present was much better till of course he lost daisy and was murdered. Even though the past is gone you can learn and improve upon what happened so that the future will be brighter. Gatsby and daisy had a thing in the past but he cant recreate what they had and the real end to their most recent thing was when daisy hit and killed myrtle in Gatsby's car and she was seen by the eyes of god and she wasn't punished for her actions instead Gatsby paid the ultimate price for her mistake. "It was after we started with Gatsby toward the house that the gardener saw Wilson's body a little way off in the grass, and the holocaust was complete."(Fitzgerald 162)
