Annexation of Hawaii June 15, 1898
on this day in 1898 the house approved senate joint resolution providing for the annexation of Hawaii as a u.s. territory, at the time Hawaii was an independent republic.
Spanish american war ended December 10, 1898
The treaty of pairs ended the war. the u.s took over much of Spain's overseas holdings . Puerto Rico and Guam were ceded to the u.s, the Philippines were brought for $20 millions, and Cuba became a u.s protectorate.

Britin intercepts the Zimmerman telegram. the telegram was from Germany to mexico asking the government to attack the u.s in exchange for TX, NM, & AZ
U.S enters WWI in April 6, 1927
u.s joins with Britain, France and Russia. U.S had disagreements over territory and boundaries with Europe. Also the Zimmerman telegram was a reason why the u.s declered war on Germany.
Many Americans did not want the u.s to go into war they wanted to remain neutral
Government brings the selective service act May 18, 1917
The u.s government had the power to draft soldiers. It required all men in the u.s between ages of 21-30 to register for military services.
The espionage act June 15,1917
Stated that it was a crime for any person to convey information intended to interfere with the u.s armed forces or promote the success of the country's enemies. it violated the first amendment (freedom of speech). But the u.s was scared of communism losing the world so they passed this act.
Woodrow Wilson's fourteen points January 8,1918
1. No more secret agreements ("Open covenants openly arrived at").
2. Free navigation of all seas.
3. An end to all economic barriers between countries.
4. Countries to reduce weapon numbers.
5. All decisions regarding the colonies should be impartial
6. The German Army is to be removed from Russia. Russia should be left to develop
her own political set-up.
7. Belgium should be independent like before the war.
8. France should be fully liberated and allowed to recover Alsace-Lorraine
9. All Italians are to be allowed to live in Italy. Italy's borders are to be "along
clearly recognisable lines of nationality."
10. Self-determination should be allowed for all those living in Austria-Hungary.
11. Self-determination and guarantees of independence should be allowed forthe Balkan states.
12. The Turkish people should be governed by the Turkish government. Non-Turks in
the old Turkish Empire should govern themselves.
13. An independent Poland should be created which should have access to the sea.
14. A League of Nations should be set up to guarantee the political and territorial
independence of all states

this battle led by john Pershing & AEF and also to the end of world war I.
Pershing and AEF helped the allies defeat the central powers which was Germany.

Germany was required yo admit to total blame for starting WWI, pay for the total coast of the war and their armies were limited to size, and also colonial possessions were divided along allies. Austria-hungry was one of the ones divided .
