Hiroshima - What We Take For Granted

By: Hannah Fender

There are many items in life that we tend to take for granted such as: family, food, water, shelter, clothes, even life itself.

If I were able to provide assistance to the survivors, I would try to do the best I can. It would be hard though, seeing all the hopelessness and death in Hiroshima. I would try to assist adults first because they would be helpful in assisting their children. Children look up to their parents and follow in example. I would want to help the parents to be able to embrace their children, and take care of them. The saddest scene in life for me would be to see a child crying over one of their parents because they would not be able to be held and feel safe in their arms. I would hope to tend to the parents first.

The city of Hiroshima was stripped of shelter, food, and water.

This video shows a girl who struggles to find good resources for herself but makes it through life everyday. It then shows a boy who helps her to get the fresh water she needed. They both do not take life for granted.

Poem: Resources After the Hiroshima Bombing

For life to be present

There are necessities

Hiroshima was full of them

The basics for life to be seen

When the bomb struck Hiroshima

Water made you sick

Food was hard to find

Shelter cleared out quick

People sat waiting to die

Without the supplies they need

Many people tried to help

But barely anyone could do the deed

Hiroshima could show you

What we want verses what we need

Next time you want something terribly

Think of what these people did

Lyrics- Today Is Beautiful

Sometimes the day won’t ever end

Sometimes you just throw up your hands

It’s the little things sometimes

Sometimes the world has just gone dark

Sometimes your praying for a spark

It’s the little things sometimes

But if you lift your eyes

See it in a different light

Just a cloud up in the open sky

Let the rain, fall away

Cause today is beautiful

Lift your eyes

See it in a different light

Just a cloud up in the open sky

Let the rain, fall away

Cause today is beautiful

Right now it feels so hard to breath

Right now you’re asking God why me

It’s what you can see right now

Cause right now there’s a greater truth

Right now there’s a bigger view

Than what you can see right now

But if you lift your eyes

See it in a different light

Just a cloud up in the open sky

Let the rain, fall away

Cause today is beautiful

Lift your eyes

See it in a different light

Just a cloud up in the open sky

Let the rain, fall away

Cause today is beautiful

If you see more then what’s in front of you

You might see more of heavens view

If you see more then what’s in front of you

You might see more of heavens view

So lift your eyes

See it in a different light

Just a cloud up in the open sky

Let the rain, fall away

Cause today is beautiful

Lift your eyes

See it in a different light

Just a cloud up in the open sky

Let the rain, fall away

Cause today is beautiful
